What is served, how it is plated, how the room is lit — the tableware has to belong to that specific table.

Prototype, test, repeat

We throw sample forms, fire them in the next scheduled kiln and put them through a real service. Chefs are honest critics: a plate that is beautiful but awkward to carry does not survive the trial week.

Sixty plates is not one design repeated — it is one family raised together.

What a commission includes

  • Two prototype rounds fired with regular editions.
  • A glaze developed for the room and its light.
  • Replacement pieces guaranteed for three years.

We take on a handful of commissions each season, scheduled between kiln releases. The waiting list is part of the process.

Glaze notes: speckled white https://msx-commercial-wordpress-v1.pages.dev/glaze-notes-speckled-white/ https://msx-commercial-wordpress-v1.pages.dev/glaze-notes-speckled-white/#respond Sat, 18 Jul 2026 11:39:45 +0000 https://msx-commercial-wordpress-v1.pages.dev/glaze-notes-speckled-white/ Our speckled white began as an accident — a mislabeled bag of clay with more iron than expected. The firing pulled the iron through the glaze in fine dark freckles, and we have been refining that accident ever since.

Three ingredients, endless range

The recipe is short, but the result depends on thickness, position in the kiln and the mood of the flame. Two bowls dipped in the same bucket can come out siblings, never twins.

A glaze is a recipe the fire is allowed to edit.

Living with it

  • Food-safe and dishwasher tested.
  • The speckle deepens slightly with years of use.
  • Unglazed rims are sanded smooth by hand.

We publish the glaze story with every edition, because the surface is half of what you are collecting.

Inside kiln release № 14 https://msx-commercial-wordpress-v1.pages.dev/inside-kiln-release-%e2%84%96-14/ https://msx-commercial-wordpress-v1.pages.dev/inside-kiln-release-%e2%84%96-14/#respond Sat, 18 Jul 2026 11:39:45 +0000 https://msx-commercial-wordpress-v1.pages.dev/inside-kiln-release-%e2%84%96-14/ Every firing is a negotiation with heat. The kiln takes two days to climb, hold and cool — and until the door opens, nobody knows exactly what the glaze has decided to do.

The climb

Release № 14 was fired in reduction, starving the flame of oxygen at the peak. That is where the speckled iron surfaces and the deep pooled edges come from. It cannot be rushed and it cannot be repeated.

The kiln is the third potter in the studio. It always gets the final word.

What made it out

  • Fifty-two pieces survived the firing.
  • Nine were held back for the archive shelf.
  • Every released piece is signed and numbered.

When an edition sells through, it closes. The next firing will be different — that is the point.
